Sakai Saburou

坂井三郎
(pn)
Fighter pilot of Imperial Japanese Navy which is well-known as flying ace (A.D.1916-2000). He has nickname "Oozora no Samurai".
His number of victories (shot downs) is 64 or more, but not only this shows his skill and/or faith.
One day of 1942, he spotted enemy military cargo plane. Even he was ordered as shoot down all enemy planes of the area, he turned a blind eye to it because he found civilians in the cargo.
Of course, this was serious violation of the order, but he believed that war is not the one to attack civilians by the one that the troops fight mutually. Also this is one of the famous episodes of him.
He survived through the wars and none of his wingman was shot down (this is the only record trough all WWs). In this meaning, nickname of "Samurai" fits to him very much.
